Bright beginnings at WES
Step inside the pre-kindergarten classroom at Wiscasset Elementary School, and you’ll immediately feel it — the hum of curiosity, the comfort of belonging, and the joy of learning just beginning to bloom.
One child carefully builds winding train tracks on the rug while another snuggles a favorite bear nearby. Yet another is already looking toward the door, eager for his turn on the swings outside. A fourth child brings stories to life at the puppet theater, and another happily explores the sensory room, proudly sharing stories about her 3-year-old sister, her very best friend.
These everyday moments are the heartbeat of WES' expanded Pre-K program, where big things are happening for our littlest learners.
Located at 83 Federal St., WES serves about 180 students in grades Pre-K through 5 in a warm, close-knit school community.
Thanks to our partnership with Midcoast Maine Community Action Head Start, our students benefit from a variety of additional supports and programs. Beginning in September 2025, WES has also provided specialized services for Pre-K students with disabilities on-site, under Maine’s new Public Law 643. At Wiscasset Elementary, this expanded Pre-K program is more than a new offering. It’s a promise — a commitment to inclusion, opportunity, and strong beginnings for every child.
