Habitat 7 Rivers’ 29th annual Spring Walk to Build will take place Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. The organization’s largest fundraiser will begin at First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, 28 High St. The anticipated 100 walkers will follow the two-mile route through the downtown, out Federal Street to the site of Habitat’s next home build project, and back. The course is on sidewalks and is family and dog-friendly.

“This is our largest fundraiser to support building, repairing and modifying homes. With the cost of building supplies increasing so substantially it costs nearly $50,000 more to complete a home. We couldn’t do this without generous support from individuals and our corporate sponsors,” said Adam Lacher, Habitat’s executive director.

“Building supply prices aren’t the only problem,” pointed out event sponsor Les Fossel of Restoration Resources. “Maine is now one of the fastest growing states which means that it is increasingly difficult to find affordable housing. Our business teaches people how to stretch their resources and we have an 18-month backlog. If people are running low on resources to stretch, that’s where Habitat comes in. We support the Spring Walk to make sure Habitat keeps being there for the people that need them,” Fossel explained.

Bath Savings Institution is the Spring Walk to Build’s longest standing corporate supporter. “For 170 years Bath Savings has had the privilege of helping our neighbors become homeowners. We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity’s incredible mission of making this dream possible for families in our community,” said Katie Spiridakis, Bath Savings marketing officer.

“At Wayfair, we are committed to supporting housing and a sense of home for all,” shared Gordon Mangum, Brunswick site director. “Our team is excited to be part of Habitat’s annual walk to support homes for local community members in our own backyard.”

Other businesses supporting the event include Hammer & Nail Sponsors – Hancock Lumber, Kennebec Savings Bank, Mid Coast Hospital and Bar Harbor Bank & Trust; Brick & Mortar Sponsors –  First National Bank, J. Edward Knight Insurance, First Federal Savings & Loan, Benjamin & Co. Timber Frames and Custom Homes, MW Sewall, and Goodwin Chevrolet; as well as Team Challenge Sponsor Now You’re Cooking.
