Call to artists for ‘New Works’

River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work for the upcoming juried show, “New Works.” This show will showcase artists’ most recent work with a fresh, up-to-the-minute vibe. Works that have been created in the last 12 months may be entered.

This show is open to members and nonmembers. All mediums are welcome. The deadline for entering  is March 26 at 4 p.m. River Arts is pleased to announce that award winning arts writer Bob Keyes will juror the show.

Bob Keyes spent many years writing about the arts in Maine for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram before recently becoming editorial director at Colby College in Waterville. He is an award-winning, nationally recognized arts writer and storyteller with specialties in American visual arts and the contemporary culture of New England. He wrote his first book, "The Isolation Artist: Scandal, Deception, and the Last Days of Robert Indiana," published by Godine, in 2021. Keyes has received numerous awards for his writing, including the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance's Distinguished Achievement Award for "exceptional and steadfast" contributions to the Maine literary community, and the Rabkin Prize for Visual Arts Journalism in recognition of his contributions to the national arts dialogue. The entry fee for “New Works” is $15 for members of River Arts and $30 for nonmembers. All entries to “New Works” must be gallery ready, clean, and wired for hanging.

Artists may enter two pieces up to 26 inches (in any direction) including frame or one piece up to 48 inches (in any direction) including frame. All submitted works must be for sale and River Arts retains 35% commission on sold works. Entry forms are available in the gallery or online at www.riverartsme.org. Notification of juror’s selections will be made via email by Wednesday, March 30. Unaccepted work should be picked up promptly during gallery hours.

“New Works” will run from March 29 to May 7. A reception will be held on April 2 from 2 - 4 p.m. Open hours are Tuesday thru Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks are required in the gallery located at 36 Elm St. Call River Arts at 563-6868 or email info@riverartsme.org for more information.
