Cassaundra Rose announces for Wiscasset selectman
I’ve been proud to call Wiscasset home for the last six years. After spending the last three years as the chair of a town committee, I hope to earn your vote to serve our community as a member of the selectboard. Public service is a core value for me, and I hope to bring my skills as a trained Earth scientist who’s worked my entire career to support effective public decision-making to help Wiscasset be strong and resilient in the face of growing challenges.
My core focus if elected is to support a Resilient Wiscasset with abundant housing, a vibrant economy and community, and a town government that leads by example and plans for immediate and long-term issues. Growing housing right here in Wiscasset that people can afford would not only grow our local economy, it would grow our community by helping younger people and families stay in the area they love. I’ve talked to local business owners who have since moved away because they can’t find affordable housing for their families, and residents barely able to afford their housing because of rising prices and taxes. If elected, I am ready to dive into the data to identify effective solutions and support community conversations to make sure that all residents have input on which are the right fit for Wiscasset.
As chair of the Wiscasset Climate Action Team, I’ve also helped the town get multiple grants to tackle issues like flooding and severe storms that are becoming more frequent and increasingly expensive, imposing a “hidden tax” that will only grow over time. I was proud to help co-lead the recently published waterfront resilience plan that will help Wiscasset keep our working waterfront resilient in the face of future flooding, where I also helped lead many community conversations about extreme weather and climate issues.
Members of the selectboard should be prepared to deal with both today’s and tomorrow’s challenges, which is something I’ve spent my career doing. I am ready to serve our community and help our town respond to immediate issues and plan for 10, 20, and 50 years from now. I am sharing more on my website and social media, and encourage anyone to get in touch with me to share your ideas and concerns at https://www.roseforwiscasset.com
