Mark Ward Sr. passed away Aug. 25, 2026 after a battle with recent health issues.

He was born May 31, 1959 to Marvina Davis and Leon Ward in Augusta. Mark grew up in Whitefield attending local schools and graduating from Wiscasset High School in 1978.

Mark had a long career owning his own construction business building houses, first under Mark Ward Builder and most recently under Ward and Sons Construction Inc. He semi-retired at the end of 2023 giving his sons the company and then worked for them for several months before retiring all together. Under his long career he employed and mentored lots of future carpenters with several going out on their own after learning skills from Mark.

Mark was predeceased by both his parents, wife Kandy of 37 years, and sister and brother-in-law Narda and Gene Hinkley.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Ward Jr. and wife Molly of Brooks and Steven Ward and wife Sylviann of Newcastle; wife, Patricia Ward of Wiscasset; stepchildren Chris Nolan, Becky Taylor, Summer Curtis and Shannon Curtis; grandchildren, Mark Ward III, Zachary Ward, Kaitlyn Fortier and husband Justin, Evan Black and Issac Black, Steven Ward Jr. and fiancé Chauntyl, Matthew Ward and Ava Ward; great-grandchildren, Landyn, Bella, Penelope, Vincent, Everett and Colten; brothers, David Ward and husband Karl, Gregory Ward and wife Kathy; sister, Heidi Daniels and husband Richard; several nieces and nephews and 4-legged companion Otis the Great Dane.

He will be laid to rest at the Alna Cemetery with a graveside service for friends and family Saturday Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. A get-together will follow at the house of Steve and Sylvi in Newcastle.
