Celebrate Spring Equinox at Hidden Valley Nature Center
Happy birthday to those folks celebrating birthdays from March 13-19: Gordon Davis, Thomas Aldrich, Carcy Truebe, Mark Rego, Nancy Mucci, Lillian Christine, Michael Cameron, Tammy Blake, Jeff McLeod, Jerry King and Joshua Manahana. Hope you enjoy your day filled with best wishes and lots of love.
Special birthday wishes to Louise Baird from her family and friends. Louise and I have been related for 66 years, gave my age away but not hers (smile). You have heard of the lady whose house was so clean you could eat off her floor. I have known and loved her for long time. Louise has always been a hard worker, good cook and extra special mom. Enjoy your day; you deserve it.
The town report was delivered this past weekend. If you weren't home, pick one up at the office. Alna will be voting on Friday, March 15 and Town Meeting is Saturday, March 16. Hope you plan to attend.
Please read the report to be informed about the articles to be discussed and voted on, Saturday. The pictures/messages from each department and officers are interesting and fun.
I would like to give credit and thanks to Chris Cooper for all the time and effort he puts into making the reports so good. He takes pictures, writes the poem for cover, of course he gets information from all who he converses with, be it citizen or town official during the year.
The town report is dedicated to Linwood Bailey. He served as a selectman, school board chairman and member, and also a cemetery trustee many times over the years.
On the day Amy called Marylou for a picture, she was surprised but sad, too. They would have been married 50 years. Marylou was so pleased that Linwood was chosen for this honor. It helped make the day a bit easier for her.
The kids in Alna took part in a Cross Country Ski Club at Hidden Valley Nature Center. It was open to anyone 4-12 years old. Thirty-two members learned the basics while having fun. The turn out was so good the Hidden Valley Nature Center will be expanding and growing the program next year.
On March 23 from 1-3 p.m., Hidden Valley Nature Center will present "Coyote Sings the Celebration of the Spring Equinox." In Native American myths the coyote was always the one to get the other animals to act. This coyote songfest is to wake up the life and announce that it’s once again time for renewal.
Elizabeth Starr singer, songwriter with fellow musicians will honor the coyote and spread the magic of the native wild dog. Come and bring poems or songs you have written about the coyote to share with others.
There will be a hike afterward; wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes. For more information, call 207-200-8840 or visit www.hvnc.org/.
Just a heads up about a fundraiser Pam St. Jean came in to tell me about and left a flier. Her uncle, Mike Reed has stage 4 cancer. Maybe you don't know him, but he needs some help. It is to be on April 20, supper and dance, 50/50 raffle, silent auction. Mark your calendar.
My oldest brother Frank Baird Jr. turned 88 this last week. He is a World War II veteran who lost his sight in one eye, but he never complained; it was for his country. He and Geneva raised four children of their own and adopted two. Saturday they all came to wish him a great day along with many grandchildren. They used to live in Woolwich, but moved to New Hampshire where most of their family now lives.
Hope you have warm week and that spring has finally peeked its head out.
