Celebrating 60 years of service to community
The first meeting of the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library was held on Jan. 27, 1966. Starting with just 12 members, the Friends are now more than 50 members strong.
Following the goals in their mission statement, the Friends have assisted with and/or funded many programs and improvements at WPL. The Friends have worked to raise in excess of $13,000 annually for special projects within the library. We also strive to serve the community. Our annual Christmas sale for children and adullts provides an opportunity to purchase gifts for family members at minimal cost.
To continue and celebrate this tradition, the Friends met to begin the initial steps to plan for celebrations this year. Our first event will be the celebration of our "birthday" on April 23 in the Library (21 High St., Wiscasset) and we hope you will be able to join us.
