Celebrating No. 9’s restoration in Alna
Sun, 08/14/2016 - 1:30pm
Locomotive No. 9 lets off steam near his feet as Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum President Stephen Zuppa, left, shakes hands with Tom Chase of the Thompson (Connecticut) Historical Society on Saturday.
About 100 people looked on under a gray sky in Alna for the ceremony marking the museum’s restoration of the 1891 locomotive, which ran for the railway the nonprofit commemorates. It sat for decades in a Connecticut barn, museum officers have said. In late 2014, museum volunteers got it to generate steam for the first time in 81 years. State Sen. Chris Johnson, D-Somerville, also spoke Saturday.
