Cindy M. Soler
Cindy M. Soler, age 78, passed away on July 15, 2025. Cindy was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.
Born and raised in Maine, she was the eldest daughter of Charles and Ethel Marr, and the loving sister of Dennis and Janet.
Cindy graduated from Morse High School in Bath, Maine in 1965. She received her associate degree in 1967 from Brevard College in Asheville, North Carolina.
At 21, she married her husband, Gary Soler, in their home state of Maine. She soon welcomed their daughter, Wendy, born April 24, 1968. Gary and Cindy moved to Connecticut in 1970 after Gary was honorably discharged from his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. They called Salem “home” since 1974.
Cindy became a vibrant part of the community and remained an active member of the Salem Seniors until her passing. Cindy entered the workforce at ShopRite in Norwich, Connecticut, where she quickly rose through the ranks to management thanks to her dedication and tireless work ethic. After many years with Wakefern Food Corporation, she made the bold decision to return to school and transitioned into a new career. She began working as an administrative assistant to Bruce Fox at PAX TV.
In 2002, Cindy became the first employee at National Media Connection, where she helped Matt Goldreich launch and grow the business into a full-service national advertising agency. She formed lifelong friendships and left a lasting impression at each of her jobs.
Since 2013, Cindy and Gary spent their winters in Largo, Florida. In 2021, she was welcomed with open arms into the Sugar Creek community following the passing of her husband of 53 years. Cindy could be seen walking around Largo getting her 10,000 steps a day. She spent her final months surrounded by an amazing group of neighbors and forever friends.
Cindy found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She valued love, kindness, family, friends ... and ice cream! Her joy was infectious, and her smile never failed to brighten the day of anyone lucky enough to cross her path. To hear her joyful “hello” when she picked up the phone was a special treasure.
She is survived by her brother, Dennis Marr; her beloved daughter, Wendy Charyak; and her three grandchildren, Jason, Jenna, and Justin Charyak – all of whom carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and compassion.
Cindy was a ray of sunshine in every room—a gentle soul whose memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. To know her was to love her. She was truly one of a kind, and she’ll be missed more than words can ever say.
A Memorial Service for Cindy will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church in Groton, Connecticut. Please see the following website for details, https://www.pbbcgroton.org
