Coastal Senior College offers two art classes
Coastal Senior College, serving Lincoln and Knox counties, is accepting registrations for its fall courses. Classes will begin in mid-September. Two art classes will be offered this fall term, one in person and one on Zoom.
“I Can’t Even Draw a Stick Figure!” will be offered in person at St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle on Tuesdays from Sept. 16 to Nov. 4, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., led by instructor Susan Morley. There will be one skip date on Oct. 7.
“Think you can’t draw, paint, create … ? Risk failure to find success in this introductory art course that will awaken that buried spark of creativity that we all possess!” Morley challenges and invites participants to delve into art exploration that will allow their hidden art spark to emerge and begin to glow. Morley’s art study has taken her to England, Italy, China and South America. Morley fully embraces the practice of lifelong learning.
“Painting Backyard Wildlife in Watercolor Pencil” will be taught by Cynthia Dias on Zoom, Tuesdays from Sept. 16 to Oct. 7, from noon to 2 p.m.
Dias offers step-by-step instructions and tips on techniques that result in softly blended or bold colors created by mixing watercolor pencils and water. She plans to focus each class on a different backyard creature. In addition to her artwork that features scenes of Maine and England, she creates textiles that are handwoven at her home in Newcastle.
Class discussions in Coastal Senior College courses offer an opportunity to learn and connect with other students who are primarily 50 and older.
Fourteen other courses in the fall series will be offered in person and on Zoom. For more information, membership and registration, go to coastalseniorcollege.org
