CTL begins Song and Story Community Series

Courtesy of CTLThe Center for Teaching and Learning held its first “Song and Story” session Thursday, Sept. 24. Musician and educator Annie Nixon and CTL’s Head of School Katy Inman welcomed a group of children ages four and under to the school’s Reading Room, where they gathered to sing songs accompanied by Nixon’s guitar music, and enjoy thematically connected books, read by Inman.
Favorite music and story connections from the first session were songs and books that featured apples. Future Song and Story sessions will continue to focus on seasonal themes and recurring favorite songs that help build connection in the group. The meetings will be held on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. each week that school is in session. They are free to attend on a drop-in basis: no registration or regular attendance is required.
Song and Story represents a way for CTL to give back to the community by sharing two traditions that its students and teachers value deeply: connection through books and music. Each day CTL students begin by gathering together as a student body to read a poem and sing a song during their daily morning meeting. As Inman explains, “Song and Story extends this combined music and literacy time to the broader Midcoast community and offers a space for caregivers of young children to connect with one another during the week.”
