Damariscotta selectmen review budget items
Damariscotta selectmen reviewed the majority of the municipal budget proposal March 1.
No vote was taken. Selectmen and the budget committee will still need to finalize the proposal. Items reviewed March 1 included projected revenue numbers, budgets for administration, emergency management, planning and development, solid waste, the municipal building and capital reserve for the municipal building, legal services, insurance, animal control, fire hydrants, street lights, traffic lights, adult education, community items including fireworks and ongoing improvements to Riverside Park; the town clock costs, county taxes, community betterment, which includes town investments in provider agencies, LCTV, Skidompha Library, and the ambulance services; debt service, capital reserves, the Phillbrook Fund to benefit the poor, and general assistance.
On March 15, selectmen will address the assessor’s, police, fire and cemetery departments, contingency funds and highways. Not yet ready for review are the school budgets and Great Salt Bay Sanitary District. They are expected around May 1.
