Daniel Harding dominates Opening Day at Wiscasset Speedway
After a long and cold six months of hibernation, Wiscasset Speedway finally opened their doors again on Saturday afternoon for the track’s 2026 season opener featuring the T&L Automotive Pro Stocks, County Truss 4-Cylinder Pros, Davis Erector Group 207 Crate Modifieds, Thunder 4 Minis and the Darling’s Brunswick Ford Super Streets.
2025 Late Model champion Daniel Harding topped the leaderboard in practice for the Pro Stocks and pulled the #1 chip for the qualifying draw, starting on the pole in the heat race. Harding pulled away with the win while Wiscasset Speedway veteran Matt Beers took home the heat win in the second qualifier.
Matt Beers got a big jump over Daniel Harding in the spotlight 50-lap feature, pulling ahead with the early lead. Meanwhile, Nick Calvert got bent out of shape on lap 2 and went around, resulting in a caution. Daniel Harding got the upper hand on the restart, distancing himself from the competition. After a multi-lap side-by-side battle, Jamie Wright overtook third from Matt Beers on lap 13. Just as Wright was knocking on Josh St. Clair’s door for second, Kelly Moore joined the fray in the closing laps of the race, making a last-lap pass to close out the podium behind race winner Daniel Harding and multi-time track champion Josh St. Clair.
2025 4-Cylinder Pro “Rookie of the Year” Adam Taylor led green to checkered to pick up the first heat win in the division while Josh Hall powered through the field in his return to win the second heat. The two drivers went head-to-head for the early lead in the 25-lap feature, with Taylor pulling ahead with the advantage. Trouble was brewing behind the leaders as Emmett Walker took a spin on lap 6, resulting in a caution.
Adam Taylor maintained command on the restart and it was smooth sailing until Austin Spencer took a spin in front of the leaders with 10 laps to go, bringing the field together once again. Adam Taylor held off Josh Hall through another late-race restart, picking up the Opening Day win as Max Parlin completed the podium.
John Ricci, the winningest driver at Wiscasset Speedway in 2025, dominated the qualifier for the Crate Modifieds. Meanwhile, defending champion Ryan Phillips' day came to an abrupt halt as his car blew up during the heat, forcing him out of the competition.
Ricci powered ahead with the early lead in the 30-lap feature over seasoned veterans Nick Hinkley and Allan Moeller. Ricci ran his fastest lap of the race on lap 17, with an impressive 15.059. He led the charge through the conclusion of the feature, picking up the win over Nick Hinkley and Allan Moeller.
The Thunder 4 Minis fielded the largest group of the day, with close to 20 drivers showing up to compete. Returning competitor Jeff Farrington led 9 of 10 laps to win the first qualifier while Derek Cook survived a wild finish in the second qualifier to pick up the heat win.
Silas Hamm and Mike Landry made hard contact on the initial lap of the 25-lap feature, resulting in an immediate red flag. Both drivers were fortunately able to walk away and Derek Cook pulled ahead with a slight advantage on restart while Gregg Norton was all over his back bumper. MiKayla Webber spun on the frontstretch, narrowly missing both leaders with 5 laps to go. Derek Cook maintained command on the chaotic restart, scoring the victory over Gregg Norton and Jamie Heath.
David Greenleaf and Calab Emerson-Mains won their qualifying heat races in the Super Streets, with Greenleaf getting an early jump in the 30-lap feature over Kevin Douglass. Defending champion Noah Haggett faced mechanical troubles early, forcing him to the pits on lap 8. He returned to the track multiple laps down, only to exit the track once again and retire from the race prematurely. Greenleaf was able to fend off the multi-time champion Douglass for the win while Calab Emerson-Mains rounded out the top 3.
Saturday’s competition was the prime example of a fun, clean and competitive race program and Team Wiscasset hopes to carry this into their Group 2 season opener on Saturday, April 25. The green flag flies at 2 p.m.
As always, adult admission is just $5 while kids 6 and under get in for free!
