First Congregational Church of Wiscasset’s Summerfest has come a long way since the Ladies’ Organ Society started it in 1983.
“It started as an arts and crafts sale,” coordinator Beth Maxwell said Saturday at the annual event. Maxwell said Summerfest has added over the years a book sale, yard sale, cafe, cookout, music and notably a dog parade.
She said all proceeds go to area charitable groups.
At the dog parade, owners took their dogs on a circuit around the grounds for judging and prizes.
Leading the procession were the “Poopettes" consisting of Joni Long, Deborah Morgan and Gretchen Burleigh Johnson. The trio, dressed in colorful straw hats and brandishing pooper scoopers, performed a military style routine to start the parade.
The Ragtime Rascals played.
