Dresden eyes Wiscasset Parks and Rec
Dresden resident Cindy Moeller asked selectmen Tuesday if they would consider becoming a community partner with Wiscasset Parks and Recreation.
“It would be nice as outlet,” said Moeller. She said it would be beneficial to young and old alike. “It would another resource.” She was not sure how to go about making it happen.
Selectman Gerald Lilly said the town’s recreation department could be used to fund the membership. “That is what it is meant for.”
In other business, Selectman Trudy Foss read a letter of resignation from new Town Clerk Susan Carson. Carson stated she was resigning for health reasons effective Sept. 6. The board went into executive session to discuss an office personnel matter.
Town Administor Michael Henderson presented the board with a list of tax-acquired properties, including some that had not been disposed of for 20 years.
Summarizing the list, Selectman Allan Moeller Sr. estimated the uncollected taxes on the 20 properties came to over $130,000. Two properties on Common Road had been slated for demolition by the fire department.
“We voted before to sell them, “ said Moeller.
Henderson said the full amount of the properties’ tax liens had not been entered in the computer program so a minimum price for the sale had not been calculated. The board voted to have the properties placed on the market with the minimum sale price not to be less than the back taxes. The board agreed to try to dispose of the rest of the foreclosed properties.
“If you don’t pay your taxes we will sell it,” said Moeller.
“There was a time period when boards would not sell property,” said Foss.
Selectmen approved a draft of a request for proposals to hire an assessor’s assistant to help selectmen. The job would start in 2020. The board agreed to publish the RFP on Maine Municipal Association’s website and in local newspapers.
The board agreed to ask Josh Watson if he wished to extend his contract to plow town parking lots for another year.
Resident Heather Beasley asked why the $7,500 contract had not been put out to bid.
“If he did a good job we can renew for next year,” said Moeller.
