Earthfest returns to Twin Villages
Spring has sprung on the Midcoast, and spring cleaning isn't far behind.
For the second year, Newcastle and Damariscotta will ask residents to venture outside when they think of spring cleaning.
The second annual Earthfest will be from April 19 to 26 with a community-wide clean up throughout the Twin Villages.
Volunteers will scour roads, trails and shoreline to collect trash and leave behind orange bags that will be picked up by the town's public works department.
The Damariscotta-Newcastle Rotary has volunteered to clear the shrubbery from the Route 1 overpass and will host an e-waste event May 3 at Floor Magic on Biscay Road.
The Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce will also clean up the area around the depot in anticipation of the seasonal train service, Newcastle Town Administrator Lynn Maloney said.
From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be a community-wide barbeque at the Damariscotta Town Hall, 21 School Street.
There is also a need for volunteers to help pick up litter from family-owned cemeteries in town, Damariscotta Town Manager Matt Lutkus said.
For more information, call either Lutkus at 207-563-5168 or Maloney at 207-563-3441.
