Edgecomb Column: First summer supper May 17
How time flies. The Edgecomb Congregational Church's first Summer Supper of 2014 will be on Saturday, May 17, serving from 5 to 6 p.m., or whenever the food runs out.
The proceeds from this supper will help fund the children's summer vacation program, July 14-18. As always, the supper menu is a variety of baked beans, home made casseroles, salads, rolls, beverages and elegant desserts. The charge is $8 for adults and $3 for children under 12. And of course, the thrift shop will open at 4:30 p.m. for browsers who come early. For more information, visit www.edgecombchurch.org. It's always good food and good fellowship for a good cause.
The Edgecomb Historical Society will hold its regular business meeting at the Edgecomb Eddy School, in the conference room, at 2 p.m. However, we will also be holding an evening program, starting at 7:30 p.m., in the vestry of the Edgecomb Congregational Church. Join us to hear Sue Carlson describe "Hidden in Plain Site," Native American structures of archaeo-astronomical and religious significance in Maine and greater New England. All are welcome.
The Edgecomb Eddy Civil Rights Team needs your help. "We would like to celebrate the diverse backgrounds of all our families by gathering information about your countries of origin. We would appreciate it if you would share this information with your child regardless if they are your biological, adoptive or step-child. Did you or your ancestors come to the United States from another country? Or perhaps you have roots in lots of different countries. The Civil Rights Team is going to share this information at the next variety show. Thanks from the Civil Rights Team."
Along with the apple blossoms and early peas, come ticks. Be sure to check yourselves and your children for any ticks, or other unwanted critters. Remember to wear light colors, long sleeves, long trousers, full shoes and socks, when walking in the woods or fields of tall grasses. Lyme disease is not a pleasant experience.
