Edgecomb December Fire Department report

The Edgecomb Fire Department responded to 25 emergency calls between Dec. 1 and Dec. 29.

On Dec. 1, first responders answered an emergency call at the intersection of Eddy Road and Route 27 for an oil truck which left the road. The truck’s wheel was in the ditch. The truck didn’t spill any of its load, according to the report. There were no reported injuries or vehicle damage. Responders provided traffic control until the truck was towed onto the pavement.

On Dec. 6, the EFD responded to two emergency calls. First responders answered an emergency call for medical treatment on Shore Road. The patient complained of severe leg pain. Responders entered the home before assisting with loading the patient into an ambulance for hospital transport.

First responders answered an emergency call of a U.S. Route 1 motor vehicle accident after a car hit a deer. Responders provided traffic control. The accident resulted in property damage only.

On Dec. 9, the EFD responded to five emergency calls. First responders answered an emergency call for a motor vehicle accident at the River Road and Turkey Run intersection. A car reportedly slid off the road and hit a tree. No one was injured and only property damage was reported.

Later, first responders attended a two-car accident at the intersection of Eddy and Fort roads. A car reportedly slipped off the road and hit a pole. No one was injured and only property damage was reported. On Route 27, a tour bus slid off the road and into the ditch. No injuries were reported. EFD arranged for passenger transport to the fire station until another bus arrived.

The EFD responded to a report of a fallen tree with utility wires down on Merry Island Road. Central Maine Power couldn’t respond until the next morning. EFD coned off the wires so traffic could pass.

On Dec. 10, firefighters answered an emergency call on Quarry Farm Road involving a fire alarm. No one was home. Firefighters located the key, inspected the home and found no fire. The EFD informed the owner about the alarm.

On Dec. 12, first responders answered an emergency call for a one-vehicle accident on Eddy Road. The car reportedly hit a guard rail. A Lincoln County deputy sheriff arrived and told responders he would wait until a wrecker arrived. 

On Dec. 13, the EFD responded to a mutual aid call in Boothbay Harbor. Edgecomb firefighters provided coverage at Boothbay Harbor’s station while Boothbay Harbor firefighters attended to a fire at the Department of Maine Resources.

On Dec. 16, first responders provided medical assistance on U.S. Route 1. A patient fell out of a chair and couldn’t get up. Prior to EFD’s arrival, a neighbor reportedly assisted the patient back into a chair.

On Dec. 17, first responders answered an emergency call at the Eddy Road and U.S. Route 1 intersection regarding an off-road vehicle. First responders provided traffic control until the vehicle was towed. No injuries or property damage were reported.

On Dec. 19, first responders answered an emergency call on River Road for a vehicle which slid off the road. Responders provided traffic control until a wrecker removed the car. No injuries were reported, but there was property damage.

On Dec. 22, first responders answered an emergency call on Route 27 for a vehicle which slid off the road. No injuries or property damage were reported. Responders provided traffic control until a wrecker pulled the vehicle onto the road.

On Dec. 23, the EFD responded to three emergency calls. First responders answered an emergency call for a vehicle which slid off the road. No injuries or property damage were reported. Later, first responders answered a medical call on Route 27 for a patient who was reportedly confused and unable to answer questions. Responders evaluated the patient until an ambulance arrived; care was turned over to paramedics.

First responders answered an emergency call at the intersection of Route 27 and U.S. Route 1 for a car that slid off the road. No injuries or property damage were reported. Responders provided traffic control until a deputy sheriff arrived.

On Dec. 24, the EFD responded to two emergency calls. First responders answered an emergency call at the intersection of Eddy and Mason roads for a vehicle which slid off the road. No injuries or property damage were reported. Later, first responders answered an emergency call on Eddy Road for a vehicle which left the road. No injuries or property damage were reported.

On Dec. 25, first responders answered a medical call on Old County Road for a patient who fell in the driveway while shoveling snow. Patient was evaluated then covered with a blanket. Responders provided lift assistance into the ambulance for transport to a hospital.

On Dec. 26, firefighters responded to a chimney fire above a pellet fire on River Road.  Firefighters extinguished the blaze, plugged the chimney and advised the owner not to light another fire without cleaning the chimney.

On Dec. 29, the EFD responded to two calls. First responders answered an emergency call on Route 1 for a vehicle which left the road. No injuries or property damage were reported. Later, first responders answered an emergency call at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Dodge Road for a vehicle off the road. No injuries or property damage were reported.
