Edgecomb oks truck sale, school fundraiser
Edgecomb selectmen opened the only bid on Monday evening, July 15 for Engine #4.
Peter Gagnon of Wiscasset submitted the sealed bid of $5,555.55. Selectmen approved the sale. It was finalized later in the week.
Reached by phone, Gagnon said the truck made him nostalgic. “Growing up in the ’80s it was the truck to have.” It was also the type of truck he drove during his military service in the Army. Gagnon plans to keep it as a specialty vehicle and park it in his driveway. Last year, he successfully bid on Westport Island’s Engine #1 fire truck.
Asked how he arrived at the unusual bid amount for the Edgecomb truck, Gagnon said, “I bid what it’s worth to me.”
Selectmen also announced that Barbara Brennan of Edgecomb will become the town’s new recording secretary starting Monday, July 29. Brennen is the wife of budget committee chair Jack Brennan.
Cook’s Landing owner Cindy Landry asked selectmen for approval of two events in August.
The first is a Saturday, Aug. 3 fundraiser for a new playground at Edgecomb Eddy School. Landry explained to the Boothbay Register, the current playground is small and only usable for first- and second-graders. The school has been raising funds for a new playground and Landry decided to help.
Plans call for a pig roast and raffle from 2 to 6 p.m. and a bouncy house and dunk tank. Principal Ira Michaud has volunteered to be dunked. A donation of $5 is suggested for the afternoon’s events and anyone wishing to may bring food to add to that offered by the restaurant. At 6 p.m., the festivities will be for those 21 years old and older. Tickle will play. Landry said Cook’s Landing is happy to accept donations of raffle items.
Selectmen also approved an after party for Stoney’s Memorial Motorcycle Run at the restaurant on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 2:30 p.m. to closing. Open to the public, the event will feature the Sweatin’ Bullets Band.
The fire department reported 13 calls for service in June: three motor vehicle accidents, eight medical assistance calls, one fire alarm and removing a tree blocking Parsons Point Road. The department also thanked more than 100 people who attended its annual pancake breakfast June 29.
