Edgecomb school holds 'Geographic Bee'
Edgecomb Eddy School recently held its first National Geographic Bee, sponsored by The National Geographic Society. Participating were all students from our fourth, fifth and sixth grades. The questions were organized into seven different categories: United States Geography; U.S. Geographic Comparisons; State Nicknames; Continents; Odd Item Out; Physical Geography; andTraveling Around the World.
Finishing in first place was Ethan Thompson, the son of David and Amy Thompson. Runner-up was Ethan Carmolli, son of Rick and Marissa Carmolli. Both boys are sixth graders at Edgecomb Eddy School.
Initially the students were somewhat nervous, but after a lengthy competition, there was a resounding “yes” when asked if we should make this an annual event. Edgecomb Eddy conducts a spelling bee each year and it was decided to also hold a geography bee as a means of providing new opportunities for our students.
