Sat, 03/26/2022 - 8:00am

A new spring show opens at Damariscotta River Grill showcasing two Midcoast Maine artists, Marijke Felix Damrell and Elaine Hranich. The pair of artists met ten years ago at a pastel class, and have been painting plein air together ever since. The “Art at the Grill” opening reception is Thursday, April 7. Join us for a special Prix Fixe three course menu, with a choice of wine pairings, or choose a selection from the regular menu, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. and celebrate the artists. A portion of the dinner proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship for a Lincoln Academy student pursuing an art education. Please call ahead to make a reservation. Stop in to enjoy beautiful art and delicious savory food offerings. Art is on display April 4 through May 16.

Marijke Felix Damrell grew up in the Netherlands, where she studied at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. After her marriage she moved to Georgetown, Maine, where she and her husband raised their two daughters. Marijke is captivated by the natural beauty of Maine, in particular the Midcoast landscapes. Her favorite mediums for painting are pastel and acrylic. She studied under several well-known artists and took many workshops. Marijke enjoys painting plein-air, weather permitting.

Elaine Hranich grew up living on the water in the small coastal community of Green Island in Toms River, New Jersey and spent much time outdoors as a child. She lived a short time in California and in central New Jersey surrounded by beautiful farm land before moving and settling in Maine 20 years ago. Reconnecting with a deep desire to create, she restarted her art journey in 2012 through private instruction and workshops. Plein air painting provides her with the opportunity to paint the essence of nature. She enjoys living in Maine with four distinct seasons, which provide continuous variations in the surrounding landscapes, scenery and wildlife. Elaine likes to experiment with multiple mediums of pastel, oil, acrylic and watercolour. During the cold winter she enjoys quiet time painting indoors.
