Fall kick-off events scheduled at First Congo

Tue, 09/04/2018 - 8:45am

The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset will begin the fall season with a kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 9 when church school and choir will resume after the summer hiatus and a cook-in will be offered after the 10 a.m. service.

All children in grades 1 through 8 are invited to the opening of the church school year on the kickoff Sunday. Church school meets on the second, third and fourth Sundays of the month from 10:30 to 11 a.m. under the direction of teacher and coordinator Colleen Crowley. Children remain in the sanctuary for family Sunday on the first Sunday of the month. This year the lessons will emphasize gratitude and belonging to a community.

After taking the summer off, the choir under the direction of Linda Adams will begin its music ministry for the coming year on Sept. 9 with an anthem, “Great and Glorious” by Franz Joseph Haydn. As a prayer response, the choir will offer “Kyrie” from “Memorial” by Rene Clausen. The Kyrie, part of a larger work written in response to the events of Sept. 11, 2001, is a plea for peace and mercy. Community members are always welcome to join the choir which rehearses every Thursday at 4 p.m.

Following worship, all visitors and members are invited to a cook-in at Fellowship Hall. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Donations of salads and sides are always welcome.

The church is at 28 High St. For more information, call 882-7544 or email fccw@myfairpoint.net
