Feed Our Scholars fundraiser gears up
The Feed Our Scholars Initiative, whose goal is to provide weekend packets of nutritious food for Wiscasset Schools’ children suffering from food insecurity, is readying its first fundraising event: a spaghetti feast combined with an abundant silent auction.
On April 6, beginning at 5 p.m., and for a mere $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12, one can indulge in spaghetti and homemade vegetarian sauce, with the option of meatballs, and garlic bread donated by Sarah’s Restaurant!
Rounding out the meal will be tossed salad, a choice of beverage, and luscious homemade desserts prepared by members of the St. Philip’s and First Congregational Churches of Wiscasset. How can one resist, especially combined with the opportunity to bid on a wide array of auction items?
There are several ways to obtain tickets for the event. Treat’s, Ames Supply, and Kidz Closet all have tickets waiting to be purchased. Make a reservation by calling St. Philip’s Church at 207-882-7184 and leaving the name, number of tickets, and a call back number on the answering machine, or visit the Feed Our Scholars website at feeedourscholars.wordpress.com, and download a form to mail.
Wonderful auction items are arriving daily. It is impressive in the breadth of selections on which to bid. There are gift certificates for many of Wiscasset’s great restaurants: Le Garage, Sarah’s, Davis Island Grill, Red’s Eats, Thai Golden, Golden Wok, pizza from Mike’s Log Cabin, or treats from Treats.
If gardening is one’s delight, bid on two yards of organic manure from Alan MacQueen at Morris Farm (delivery not included), or a raised bed kit from Ames Supply.
For arts or crafts lovers, there is original artwork by Melissa Hunnibel, a candy dish from Sheepscot Pottery, a gift certificate from Peapod Jewelry, or a print of the Frank Kaczmarek watercolor, "Solitude," donated by Second Hand, Etc. of Edgecomb, to choose from, not to mention a photography session for your children with Whimsical Years Photography.
And speaking of childhood opportunities, Seeds of Knowledge Education Center is offering the opportunity for a week’s attendance at one of their fun morning day camp experiences for a child, grades 1-6.
The choices include: Wacky Kitchen Science Camp, July 8-12; Write On! Summer Writing Camp, July 29-August 2; or Secret Agent Academy Camp, August 12-16. Then there’s Papa Geppetto’s Toy Shop, new to Water Street and next to Red’s Eats, which has donated both a Whipple Craft 'n Fun Crème kit and a $10 gift certificate toward helping to feed hungry children of the community.
Blissful Touch Skincare Therapy has donated a gift certificate for a facial, Debbie Speed for a series of Zumba classes, and Organize Your Life and Home for a 3-hour consultation, while Avon lady, Cathy Pilgrim, has put together a basket of Avon products for the auction.
If there’s a dog in the household, bid on one or both of the boxes of flea treatment donated by Coastal Veterinary Care. Say the car needs an oil change? There is one from Greg’s Auto on Gardiner Road. These items and more are all waiting for spaghetti-satiated bidders on April 6. Come one, come all!
