Set for Success (S4S) is Wiscasset’s Feed Our Scholars’ (FOS) new effort in supporting an effective learning situation for our local schoolchildren. Sunday, Aug.11, from 1 to 3 p.m., Wiscasset Elementary School children, accompanied by parents or guardians, are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity regardless of economic situation. As Sharman Ballantine, FOS committee member, said, “Our drive for school supplies will also ease the burden on teachers who frequently fill the supply gaps in the classroom.”

To make this happen, FOS is in need of colored pencils, plastic pencil boxes, clipboards, three-ring binders, many erasers, tape, notebooks, paper, scissors, markers, sticky notes, and such. While some items are specific to individual classes, others require enough for 250 children! Whether people are able to donate many items or just a few or even just one, there are five locations in Wiscasset where donations can be left: Big Al’s, Wiscasset Town Office, and Ames Supply, all on Route 1; Wiscasset Community Center on Route 27; and St. Philip’s Church hall on Hodge Street.

This kick-off year, it was decided that each child attending should receive a school-spirited red backpack complete with wolf paw print. The school’s mascot is a wolf. Even with the very generous deal that Jungle Inc. of Essex, Massachusetts has given FOS, the backpacks will be the single greatest expense to be raised.
