First Congo distributes Summerfest funds
On Oct. 29, the proceeds of Summerfest, an annual fair held by the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, were distributed to 23 area charities during the Sunday morning church service. Every year on Mission Sunday, the church sets time aside to thank and recognize local charities.
The recipients of the $8,500 raised at Summerfest this year are: Camp P.O.S.T.C.A.R.D.; Carpenter’s Boat Shop; CHIP, Inc.; Church World Service; Cooper-DiPerri Scholarship Fund; Feed our Scholars Program; Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers, Maine; Healthy Kids; Lifeline of Midcoast Maine; Lincoln County Animal Shelter; Lincoln County Dental Clinic; Miles & St. Andrews Home Health/Hospice; MOBIUS, Inc.; New Hope for Women; People to People; St. Philip’s Food Pantry; Sussman House; Tedford Housing; Tri-County Literacy Volunteers; Washington County Children’s Program; Westport Island Helping Hands; Wiscasset Green; and FCCW Special Needs Fund.
Summerfest has been held on the Wiscasset Common the last Saturday in July for the past 33 years. All members of the church are involved in the special event that features the On-Common Café, a dog show and parade, crafts, baked goods, books, treasures, toys, wood crafts, plants and a giant yard sale. All of the money raised is donated to charity.
