First Congo Wiscasset schedules Holy Week services
On April 17, Maundy Thursday, a Communion and Tenebrae service will be held at 7 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. The Tenebrae, a service of increasing darkness, is an account of Jesus after his arrival at the Garden of Gethsemane to his crucifixion. Selections from the choir, led by Joel Pierce, will include "Father, Forgive Us" and "God So Loved the World."
On April 18, Good Friday, at 6 p.m., First Congo will join St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in St. Philip’s Parish Hall for a service held in the Taizé tradition in which prayers are sung rather than spoken.
On Sunday, April 20, a sunrise service celebrated by both St. Philip’s and First Congo will be held at the Wiscasset Town Pier at 6 a.m. Rev. Myers’ sermon is entitled “And so are you!” based on Luke Chapter 24. Flute selections will be provided by Sarah Whitfield.
At the10 a.m. First Congo service, Rev. Meyers' sermon is titled, “No explanations inside the church” and is based on Luke 24, 1-12. "Christ is Risen," "Alleluia" and "Because He Lives" will be sung by the choir, directed by Joel Pierce.
