First Congregational Church of Wiscasset walks for Habitat for Humanity
The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset is raising money to support the local Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine. The church has participated in this annual fundraising event for over 20 years. All money raised comes from local church members and 100 percent of it stays in the local community.
Habitat serves the local families of 31 Midcoast towns in Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties, plus Brunswick and Harpswell. Their motto is to lend “a hand up, not a hand out.” They help hundreds of families by improving the lives of those that live in substandard unhealthy homes. They do this by building new homes (37 to date), repairing existing homes, improving energy consumption in existing homes, renovating old homes for new local families, and most recently upgrading homes for the elderly so they can “stay-in-their-homes” longer.
The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset is proud to be one of 22 other area churches, raising money for Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine during their annual spring walk event. Habitat’s goal this year is $57,000, and the church hopes to raise $3,000 in support of this goal. There are 10-15 walkers signed up to walk and raise money, and the walk will take place on Sunday, May 3.
The church is very proud to be associated with this wonderful organization and event. They have seen firsthand how valuable their work is in this community. It is a very worthwhile organization, with a very worthwhile mission, and deserves full support of the church and the local community.
There are three ways you can help Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine:
- You can lace up your walking shoes, start walking and raising money. It's your chance to have a glorious spring 5k walk on a very flat route near downtown Brunswick. It is a very family friendly walk with support along the way.
- You can sponsor a walker in our church.
- You can volunteer to help during the spring walk at the event in Brunswick.
Community members are encouraged to join with the church family to support this important fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine.
