A flood watch is in effect for many parts of Maine, including Knox, Lincoln and Waldo counties, until Monday afternoon. The precipitation will fall as rain along the coastal plains, but drive inland toward the mountains and it will get icy. And up toward Jackman and Millinocket, there’s a winter storm warning under way.
Low pressure is expected to move slowly on the mid-Atlantic coastline and meander offshore of Cape Cod through Monday, bringing heavy rain to the Midcoast.
“A rich supply of Gulf moisture flowing northward will interact with the low and bring widespread moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall along the East Coast, and another area of rain is expected with the developing upper level low that is west of the main surface low,” the National Weather Service predicted. “A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is likely for interior sections of New York state and New England with colder air in place.”
The NWS issued its flood watch Saturday, March 29, for portions of Maine and New Hampshire with predictions of one to three inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible. The excessive rainfall and snowmelt may cause flooding on rivers, small creeks and in urban areas.
The ice may also begin moving on some rivers and ice jams could present flood threats.
