Rep. Mick Devin, D-Newcastle, will host “The Maine Health Insurance Marketplace Explained” on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m in the Porter Meeting Hall of the Skidompha Library at 184 Main Street in Damariscotta.
A panel will discuss information on Maine’s new health insurance marketplace and how individuals can navigate the program. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.
Participants of the forum will include representatives from Maine Equal Justice Partners, Consumers for Affordable Health Care and LincolnHealth, formerly known as Miles Memorial Hospital.
The first open enrollment period for the Maine Health Insurance Marketplace began on October 1 for low- to middle-income individuals and small business owners to purchase affordable health coverage using federal subsidies. The first open enrollment period ends on March 31, 2014. Plans will be available to start coverage on January 1.
Starting January 1, 2014, most individuals must be covered through an employer, through public programs like Medicare or Medicaid or by purchasing a plan on their own.
