Almost new, and not so new items will be on sale at bargain prices in the cafeteria of Wiscasset Middle High School this Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the French III students’ February class trip to Quebec, Canada.

Earlier this week, French teacher Irene Marchenay let the Wiscasset Newspaper take a peek at some of the items. Among them are former best-selling books, a combination DVD/CD player, kitchen items, DVDs, clothing, ice skates, and toys for kids, and a Magic 8 Ball.

The class is raising money to help fund its four-day visit to historic Quebec City. Montreal-based Prometour Educational Tours is handling all the arrangements including bus transportation and accommodations at the Comfort Inn & Suites Saint-Nicolas near the city’s Centre Commercial.

As she piled boxes and bags of items in the corner of her classroom, Marchenay said her students were pretty excited about their trip and the garage sale. They’ve also been selling baked goods and collecting bottle donations to raise money.

“I told them please don’t bring any more items for the garage sale until Friday, the day before the sale because my classroom will become overloaded,” she said.

“We now have students from Mt. Ararat and Freeport high schools who will be joining us on the trip,” she continued. “It will be a full bus, 45 to 50 students along with myself, the other teachers and chaperones.”

Marchenay said their stay from Feb. 28 to March 3 includes visits to Rue Saint-Joseph, dinner at the restaurant Cuisine Là Là and Musée de la Civilisation (Museum of Civilization) and a hotel made almost entirely of ice and snow.

Donations for the garage sale are still being accepted and can be dropped off at the WMHS office on Friday, Nov. 30 if possible.
