Get ready for 'The War Of the Worlds'
Foot on the Ground Productions seeks enthusiastic volunteers for all aspects of production (i.e., stage management, props, set design, set construction, costumes, acting roles, orchestral and jazz music, lighting tech., sound tech., effects, videography/documentary, program, house management, publicity, box office, development, etc.), for a re-enactment of the "War of the Worlds" to take place in Damariscotta during the 2026 Halloween season.
We plan to make the production an annual event, in support of a larger mission: to promote media literacy education in Maine. It will be an opportunity to experience first-hand the sensation that was the "War of the Worlds," and learn about the 1938 radio broadcast phenomenon that caused the panic that brought about formal guidelines for ethics in journalism and the regulation of the media.
We also invite educators who love history (particularly the 1930s/World War I and World War II), journalism, literature, theater arts, visual arts and the media (newspaper, radio, TV, internet, documentaries and/or film) to consider creating complementary programming for the event, in the form of workshops for adults and children.
We welcome veterans and people of all backgrounds to share in the fun and refreshments with us this weekend, while we brainstorm ideas for next year. Please join us on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at the Peace Gallery (a creative resource for veterans and their families in our community), 112 Main St., Damariscotta. If you cannot join us and would like to volunteer in any way, by assistance or gift, please contact Ella Ackerman, producer/director/project coordinator, at footonthegroundproductions@gmail.com.
