Pictured are Jan Whitfield and Chris Grosser from the Garden Club of Wiscasset, along with some third grade students. Jan, Chris and fellow Garden Club member Susan Atwood, work with students in grades K-4 in the ongoing school garden they developed. The club works in conjunction with Lisa Packard of the Morris Farm. The students pictured are planting seeds in peet pots. They plant vegetables, flowers, and a three sisters garden. The food is used in the school nutrition program and teachers can take samples of veggies and flowers to their classrooms for teaching. The extra vegetables in the fall are donated to the food pantry at St. Phillips Episcopal Church. This is a true community project and the staff at Wiscasset Elementary School are very grateful to these lovely ladies who volunteer so much of their time teaching the students a lifelong skill and what it means to help others.
