Good Friday family event in Woolwich
“What’s so good about Good Friday?” This is a valid question as usually Good Friday is a very subdued event in most Christian churches, because it commemorates a day of suffering and the death of Christ.
However, the day that initially seemed to demonstrate the greatest triumph of evil actually dealt evil its final deathblow in God’s gloriously good plan to redeem the world from the bondage of sin. The death of God’s Son and His subsequent resurrection opened up the opportunity for the human race to have a personal relationship with the God who loves them. What could be more “good” than that? In some countries, this day is also called “God’s Friday.”
So, instead of having a rather solemn Good Friday service with very few children present, North Woolwich Methodist Church is planning a family event: "Walk with Jesus." Participants will walk through four events leading to the death of Jesus: Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, Gethsemane, the Crucifixion, ending with a fifth event, the Empty Tomb. Each stop is filled with sights and sounds of the event. Costumed characters will lead the activities, which will help participants to capture the wonderful meaning of Easter.
Then there will be refreshments and crafts, all free! It will not be a “circus atmosphere” but a very respectful and enriching celebration of an awesome Biblical event for both youth and adults.
Hope you will join us: Friday, March 25, 4:30 to 7 p.m., at the North Woolwich Methodist Church, 941 River Rd. (Route 128), Woolwich. For more information, call 442-9564 or 319-4639.
