Harbor Lights 2018

Sat, 12/01/2018 - 7:30am

The annual Harbor Lights Festival opened with a warm reception from the Boothbay Region Garden Club to donors and sponsors to this year’s event. This year’s theme tree – central to trees of all shapes, sizes and mediums – is “Merry & Bright” and features handmade ornaments by BRGC.

The theme tree, along with several other items and packages, are part of the raffle this year which will be ongoing throughout the weekend, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Raffles will be announced at 2 p.m. and winners will be notified and will be able to pick up their winnings by 5 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 1: Here comes Santa ... An enthusiastic and jolly crowd waited for Santa’s arrival at the Boothbay Harbor Town Landing aboard the Novelty along with Mrs. Claus and the beloved couple’s North Pole entourage around 1. The colorful characters made their way through the crowd then climbed aboard the waiting  horse drawn wagon on Commercial Street bound for the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. Hundreds of children visited The Clauses at the Library before a merry crowd began to gather on the lawn.

Three local readers Roger Ferrell, Jamie House and Sarah Moore read six holiday books at Sherman's Bookstore on Dec. 1 as part of the Habor Lights Celebration.

At 4 p.m. the Boothbay Region Community Band began to assemble for caroling and ... drum roll please ... the Tree Lighting Ceremony!

The Art in the Square exhibit at Boothbay Region Art Foundation and the Art for the Holidays show at Gleason Fine Art added another magical facet to the much beloved Harbor Lights Festival.

Many Harbor Lighters followed the Wise Men to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church ... to a live Nativity.

And then ... came  the Lighted Boat Parade ...
