Hometown Hootenanny returns
Each winter Boothbay resident Garry Blackman pulls together a large band of Midcoast musicians to help fend off cabin fever while raising funds to support the historic Opera House at Boothbay Harbor. The Hometown Hootenanny is the result. This year’s gathering of musicians is slated for Saturday, March 2.
The bands already committed to playing at the 2013 Hootenanny include Garry & Friends, The Dyer Neck Gang, and the Sweatin’ Bullets Band with other musicians expected.
“We’ll get some of old favorites back on stage and have a good time,” Blackman said.
The success of this annual fundraiser comes not only from ticket sales, but also from sponsorships. Early sponsors include J. Edward Knight Insurance and The First, but there is still space for additional sponsors. Interested individuals or businesses may contact Garry Blackman or call the Opera House at 207-633-6855. Sponsors received a reserved table and four seats on the night of the Hootenanny.
Tickets are on sale through the Opera House Box Office at 86 Townsend Avenue, open Tuesday-Friday from 10-4 or by calling 207-633-5159. Advance tickets are $10, tickets purchased on the day of the concert are $15. The music starts at 7 p.m., doors for seating open at 6:30 p.m., and the historic upstairs bar will open at 6 p.m. on the night of the show for ticket holders.
