It was 'all that jazz' and more
What do you get when you mix together the historic Boothbay Harbor Shipyard, four jazz musicians from New York City, more than 130 guests, hors d’oeuvres from 11 local restaurants, and more than 30-plus supporters and sponsors? You get Boothbay Region Land Trust’s only 2012 fundraising event, “Jazzing Up the Shipyard.”
On Thursday, August 16, the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard played host to a special night of unique jazz music featuring some of the best jazz musicians in the world, Marcus Printup of Jazz at Lincoln Center, his wife Riza (Hequibal) Printup on the jazz harp, Matthew Rybicki on bass and Alvin Atkinson on drums. The Marcus Printup Quartet is an ensemble that has headlined special nights of unique jazz music at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola.
As part of the evening’s festivities, there was a silent auction that offered many unique and priceless items such as: lunch and private walking tour of Portland with historian Mr. John (Jack) B. Bauman, author of “Gateway to Vacationland: The Making of Portland, Maine,” a two-hour evening cocktail cruise aboard Paul Coulombe’s 112-foot Westport Yacht Feelin Free, and lunch at Boothbay Region Land Trust’s Porter Preserve, prepared and served by Chef George Schimert of the Boothbay Country Club.
In their effort to support the Land Trust, Boothbay region chefs provided mouthwatering hors d’oeuvres highlighting their culinary skills and food artistry. An immense thank you to all of the participating restaurants that donated their time and goods during their busiest time of the year:
The Boothbay Region Land Trust Jazz Concert Committee and staff worked diligently to make this a most unforgettable evening. The evening lived up to its promise of great jazz music and will surely go down as one of the most spectacular concert events in the Boothbay Region this summer.
