Jackie began a career in financial management with Unilever plc in London in 1974, and went on to hold positions with international businesses such as National Westminster Bank, Coopers & Lybrand and Grant Thornton International, New York. In 1999 she began work with Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (CEI) located in Wiscasset as chief operating officer, becoming chief financial officer in 2007.
Endowed with diverse skills and a sharp mind, she carried out the most difficult and complex organizational tasks with ease and unassuming manner, often with a touch of humor and wit, helping to build one of the largest community development finance entities in the U.S. Her thoughtful and contemplative manner, combined with her kind and generous spirit, instilled in her colleagues the confidence to carry on with their mission, no matter how daunting the challenge might be.
She loved travel, literature, music, and theater, living in London, New York and San Francisco before settling in Maine. Work and personal interests took her to more than 50 countries.
She was married for 30 years, and lived in Bristol.
Jackie is survived by her loving younger brother, Richard Wardell, and nephews Ian and Eric Wardell. Her beloved companion English setter, Nicky, recently predeceased her.
