James E. Pitcher
James E. “Jim” Pitcher of Boothbay and Marathon, Fla., having bravely fought leukemia, died November 1, 2013 at home with his family. The memory of his kindness and love of life and people cannot be dimmed by any disease.
Jim was born in Gardiner June 5, 1953, the son of Myrle Dorr and the late James R. Pitcher.
He graduated in 1971 from Hall-Dale High School and then attended Plus-Gray's School of Business.
A great love story began when he met his future wife Kathy and they were married at the Old South Congregational Church two days after his graduation on June 19, 1971. Jim took a summer job at Floormaster, where he began a career which led to owning Jim's Carpet Center in Boothbay for 25 years. After selling the store, they moved to Marathon, Fla., where he worked for D'Asign Source, a building company, for 10 years.
Most people who met him would say he was a wonderful person and kind soul who would always offer to help anyone in need. He touched so many people's lives on his short journey with us and he will be remembered in most minds forever.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy; his daughters, Kelly and Jamie; grandchildren, Austin and Kayla; his mother, Myrle; sisters, Karen of Florida, Victoria of Maryland, and Viola and Joan of Wisconsin; and brothers, George of Michigan and Michael of Ohio.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to tell a few stories and to celebrate his life on January 18, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m., 121 Commercial St., Apt #1, Augusta. Call 305-360-8802 for more information.
