Join Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association’s lobster bake on Peaks Island
The Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association (MCFA), a nonprofit working to support vibrant fisheries, healthy fishermen, and thriving fishing communities, invites you to join them for an authentic Maine lobster bake on Peaks Island. All proceeds go to benefit MCFA’s programs. The event will be held at the Island Lobster Company on Casco Bay’s Peaks Island on Saturday, Sept 10 from 5-7 p.m.. Ferry service is available through Casco Bay Lines to transport guests to and from the event.
Island Lobster Company owner and boat Captain Thom Werner unloads his daily catch of lobsters at the dock directly in front of the restaurant. Katie, Thom’s wife and partner, will welcome you “aboard” with a warm hello and get you set for your traditional seaside Maine Lobster Bake with plenty of napkins and warm melted butter. The evening’s menu will include fresh steamed lobster, locally sourced mussels, baked potato, corn on the cob, and cookies. Soft drinks will be included with the price of a ticket and adult beverages will be available for purchase.
In addition, guests will be able to sample Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association’s Maine Coast Monkfish Stew, a product created by Hurricane Premium Soups and Chowders in Greene, Maine that features sustainably harvested Maine monkfish along with locally sourced potatoes, carrots and onions in a broth of Maine lobster stock and dairy. The proceeds from the sale of the stew benefit MCFA’s Fishermen Feeding Mainers program where MCFA donates fresh seafood meals to schools, food banks and community groups throughout the state. The program has provided over half a million meals to date to more than 60 recipient groups. The stew is available in a 16-ounce box containing a convenient frozen heat and serve pouch in more than 40 locations in Maine and beyond. MCFA is pleased to announce that the list of locations selling the stew now also includes 11 Hannaford stores.
