Dresden selectmen on Monday unanimously appointed Steve Lilly fire chief and Michael Nylen assistant fire chief. They also appointed former selectmen Dale Hinote to the Marijuana Business Committee at his request, and newly elected First Selectman Trudy Foss accepted the duty of town health officer as no volunteers had come forward.

The board went over the Goodall contract for snowplowing. The cost for the first year was approved at town meeting June 16, however the contract had not been formally accepted. Selectman Allan Moeller Sr. moved to accept the contract on a three-year basis, stating, “They won’t do a one-year contract, so if we do only one year, this contract is null and void.”

Selectman Dwight Keene seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

The board also went over a request from resident Heather Beasley to turn over Ballard Road to her. Selectmen called it a rangeway, and said the town does not own it.

“There are other people who live farther in from her,” resident Rick Graffam said. “There is a prescribed easement if you turn the road over to her, and restitution would have to be paid to the landowners who could no longer access their property.”

Moeller said, at Beasley’s request, they had been going through town records to determine who has possession.

In other business, selectmen voted unanimously to buy and install a new furnace for the town office from Main Street Fuel for $5,000. While the business would charge $3,800 to install an unused furnace the town currently has, Moeller said the transfer station furnace has a “45-day fix” on it and will need replacing shortly, which is where he said the unused, older furance should go.

The board approved a request from Administrative Assistant Michael Henderson to close the town office on Monday, July 9 and Monday, July 16.

“We need to fix this mess,” Henderson said about a large wall put in place to create private areas for counting money and holding general assistance meetings. According to Foss, the wall started to fall down the day after it was put in.

Henderson said he will buy cubicle walls to re-create the needed private areas.

Indian Road resident Deb Burki asked about the culverts on her road, which hadn’t been worked on yet. Moeller stated the paving of Common Road and work on Alexander Road culverts are on the agenda for this week, and Indian Road is scheduled for next week.

Lilly asked for $400 to buy a software program to help track the department's spending and equipment. The board approved the purchase, and Henderson said he would make sure the check was cut by Friday to ensure it would be on this year’s budget.

The board meets next at 6 p.m. Monday, July 9. A public hearing is set for 6 p.m. Monday, July 2 at Pownalbourgh Hall to discuss a proposed sale of the Old Town Hall.
