Maine Pro Musica: Tonight’s the night
The LincolnArts Festival is so proud to present – for the first time in Boothbay Harbor – the 55-member Maine Pro Musica orchestra playing under the capable artistic direction of founder Janna Hymes.
Maine Pro Musica’s members all live and work in Maine and are modeled on the turn of the century bands that traveled the countryside bringing live orchestral music to our small, rural communities.
Thursday, July 12, they grace Boothbay Harbor and joyfully present the world class artist Chiharu Naruse, who will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, opus 37, C minor at the peninsula’s historic Opera House.
Offered as well are Mozart’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro and Mendelssohn’s Symphony 4, opus 90, A major, “Italian” with Chiharu Naruse on piano.
Described by the Kennebec Journal as one of the most talented pianists in America today, Naruse holds a master’s degree in music performance as well as a master’s degree in music instruction from the Hochschule Fur Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.
She has performed throughout the world in recitals and piano competitions, recently completed concert tours in France and Japan, and in 2002 moved to the United States to study under Frank Glazer.
She has offered several recitals at Bates College and the University of Maine in Farmington and Augusta, and played concerts with the Portland String Quartet and the DaPonte String Quartet, including the much loved Rachmaninoff Second Piano Concerto with the Augusta Symphony.
The Lincoln Arts Festival is thrilled to present this truly extraordinary orchestra. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and admission is $20. Tickets are available tonight at the door.
Next on Lincoln Arts vivid summer agenda: The Jazz Weekend, held at the Opera House on Friday, July 20, featuring The Mark Tipton Quintet, Saturday, July 21, the Royal River Philharmonic Jazz Band, followed on Sunday, July 22, at 10 a.m. by the traditional Jazz Church Service at the Congregational Church.
