Marguerite B. Fairfield
Marguerite Bailey Fairfield, 78, of Wiscasset died unexpectedly November 8, 2013 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.
She was born in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire on August 7, 1935, a daughter of Linwood A. Sr. and Rosetta (Kennerson) Bailey. She graduated from Bridge Academy in Dresden and after graduation moved to Damariscotta and was employed as a waitress at several local restaurants.
On March 4, 1960 she married Schuyler Fairfield, moved to Wiscasset, and together owned and operated Fairfield of Wiscasset Signs until present.
Marguerite was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, the Wiscasset Lions Club, the Alna Cemetery Association, and the former Business Professional Women's Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, quilting, knitting and especially spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Benjamin Bailey, Winthrop Bailey and Linwood Bailey, and one sister, Marjorie Colpitt Adams.
She is survived by her husband, Schuyler Fairfield Sr. of Wiscasset; two sons, Donald Fairfield and his wife Mary Ellen of North Haverhill, N.H. and Schuyler Fairfield Jr. and his wife Megan of Andover, Mass.; three daughters, Elizabeth Brown and her husband Louis of Alna, Marita Fairfield of Wiscasset, and Cynthia Seigars and her husband John of Alna; one brother, Charles Bailey and his wife Gloria of Edgecomb; three sisters, Virginia "Ginny" Wright of Whitefield, Rosetta Burns of Alna and Ernestine Lincoln of Whitefield; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bailey of Wiscasset and Mary Lou Bailey of Alna; nine grandchildren, Elaine Jane Blevins, Tiffany Fariss, Kyle Canada, Matthew Brown, Daniel Seigars, Samuel Fairfield, Marguerita Fairfield, Sabrina Fairfield, Alec Fairfield; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15 at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset Fellowship Hall. A celebration of Marguerite's life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at the Alna Cemetery.
