More auction items for Feed Our Scholars supper April 5
Feed Our Scholars, a childhood hunger initiative based at St. Philip’s Church in Wiscasset, is throwing a big party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at 12 Hodge Street — and everyone’s invited! The purpose is to raise funds for support of the Wiscasset Backpack Program. It reaches out to food insecure children from Wiscasset, Westport Island and Alna. Come on out! It’s cabin fever relieving time.
The entirely homemade spaghetti sauces are both vegan-friendly, poured over regular pasta, or gluten-free for those who need it. For the carnivores among us, there are meatballs on the side. Salad, garlic bread (or plain), drinks and homemade desserts round out the menu. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. How can you go wrong?
Cathy Tyler, known for her St. Philip’s fish chowder supper skills, is again the spaghetti chef par excellence, with meatball magic produced, as with last year’s dinner, by Susan Gallagher. Are mouths watering yet? Well, how about all the scrumptious desserts provided by First Congregational and St. Philip’s people who pull out all the stops to create a dessert table to die for?
The bidding on auction items begins at 5 and continues during the event. Dinner is served from 5:30 p.m. If one’s heart’s desire is a particular auction item, feel free to leave the meal table to keep tabs on the bidding throughout the evening. Remember, it’s all to benefit local children in need.
There are many auction items donated already, with more arriving daily: Works of art from Fogg Art Restoration; dishes from both Edgecomb and Sheepscot Potters; a set of placemats from On Board Fabrics; a clock care of Sproul’s; auto detailing from Wiscasset Ford; and oil changes from Greg’s on Route 27 in Wiscasset and Station Avenue in Edgecomb. Also, many children’s items will be available, including books, art supplies, a baby’s dress from Pitter Patter in Bath, sweater kits for knitters, and gift certificates from the likes of Island Treasure Toys.
There are Harbor Theatre movie passes, mooring cleanings by Float Works of Westport, a Copy Shop certificate, even a tank top gas-fired heater courtesy of Nichols’ NAPA. If pampering is what’s needed, there are certificates from Peapod Jewelry, Bohemian Rose, Eleanor and Anita’s, and Avon products care of Avon lady, Cathy Pilgrim.
If bidders go away hungry, they have several opportunities to fill the void via food certificates from Marketplace Café, Sully’s Dogs, Reds Eats, Gelato Fiasco, Starlight Café, Hunter’s Breakfast, Mike’s Log Cabin and Big Barn Coffee Roasters, to name a few. Check out the Feed Our Scholars facebook page at www.facebook.com/WiscassetFeedOurScholars to see these and other auction items. Check back as there are items added daily.
