Mother’s Day open house and plant sale at Chapman-Hall House
Stewards of the Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta will hold a Mother’s Day Open House and plant sale on Sunday, May 13. The public is invited to check out the plants and enjoy traditional Irish music while touring this important local historic site. Mothers will be given free tours of the house on this day.
Costumed docents will conduct tours of the period rooms that reflect the time frame of the mid-18th century to the early 19th century. Enjoy light refreshments in the kitchen that once bustled with activity under the guidance of Mrs. Chapman and Mrs. Hall. To complement the festive air of the day, traditional Irish music will be provided by Darryn Petersen and friends. Darryn will play the Uilleann pipes, and the other musicians will bring their favorite instruments for traditional Irish tunes. In this informal setting, visitors can chat with the musicians about the music and the instruments.
On the grounds of the house, a nice selection of flowers and herbs will be offered for sale. Proceeds from regular admissions and the plant sale support the preservation of Chapman-Hall House, the oldest existing house in Damariscotta. Admission is $5; children under 16 are admitted free.
Chapman-Hall House opens for the full summer season on June 2. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through Columbus Day Weekend. Chapman-Hall House is located at 270 Main Street, Damariscotta.
Additional 2018 programs include a Blacksmith in Residence on June 23 and the children’s program Summer with the Past, June 25-29. For additional details please visit the Lincoln County Historical Association’s web site: www.lincolncountyhistory.org or call 207 882-6817.
