NBC News correspondent Harry Smith interviews Sen. King in Southport
A lobster emoji was the main topic of discussion Friday afternoon as NBC News correspondent Harry Smith interviewed U.S. Sen. Angus King, I - Maine, at Robinson’s Wharf in Southport. King is advocating that the Unicode Consortium add lobster as an emoji in 2018. Unicode is a computing industry standard for the consistent encoding, representation, and handling of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems.
King wrote a letter earlier this year advocating for lobster as a candidate for an emoji. The senator’s office also sent out press releases which prompted NBC News to request an interview.
Smith sat down with King to a twin lobster dinner with corn on the cob and Maine-made root beer. The interview is scheduled to air on NBC Nightly News at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. The newscast can be seen locally on WCSH-TV Channel 6 in Portland. The segment will also be available at NBCNews.com.
