Three artists will grace the walls of The River Room at River Arts Gallery in Damariscotta from Feb. 8 through March 13. Artists Judy Nixon, Helen Warner and Colleen White, have put together a vibrant and colorful show for the eyes called “3 Artists/ Eclectic Styles.” The show features an array of brilliant botanicals, abstracts, and landscapes in oil, alcohol ink, acrylic, watercolor and gouache. An opening reception will take place Saturday, March 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. in conjunction with the gallery’s opening reception of upcoming show, “Night & Day.”

Judy Nixon loves to paint the magical place she now calls home, the Pemaquid peninsula. Whether it is an iconic landmark or the creatures or flowers in her own yard, she feels a personal connection to her subjects. Nixon gets excited about capturing the wonderful island atmosphere of Monhegan whenever she gets a chance to visit. Light and color are important to her, and she is always eager to learn new techniques and experiment with new subject matter.

Helen Warner, who works primarily in alcohol ink and oil, says of her work, “Color, light and shadow is the biggest influences in my art. Nature provides me with Endless opportunities to bring the outside in. Every painting is a new adventure to be shared.”

Colleen White is an oil painter living in Portland. White depicts seascapes and landscapes of Maine and New England while always trying to merge reality with the mood and emotion of the place. White says, “Inspiration for my paintings comes from my response to the subject matter. I’m always trying to recreate the atmosphere and light of the scene. I very much enjoy the process of painting – applying color, scraping it off, pushing it around – finding what works best to convey my intention.”
