Newcastle approves Mobius housing
On Feb. 16, the Newcastle Planning Board unanimously approved a request by Damariscotta-based Mobius Inc. to retrofit a barn and house at 21 Academy Hill Road as apartments for Mobius clients.
The approval depends on getting a letter from Fire Chief Clayton Huntley, attesting to the units’ safety.
Four apartments will be built, three two-bedroom units and one with one bedroom. Mobius’ executive director Rebecca Emmons said the facility would be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Clients have disabilities and get help from Mobius on case management and community support, job training, and assisted living. Mobius has worked in the community since 197
Bolster Builders of Pemaquid won the bid for the interior work and has pledged to hire local workers for it.
