Newcastle Ecumenical Food Pantry and MOFGA receive donations from Rising Tide
Rising Tide Community Market recently donated to two local nonprofit organizations through its Co-ops for Community Day program, in which .5 percent of Wednesday sales are allocated to a different organization each month.
Newcastle Ecumenical Food Pantry received a check for .5 percent sales for the month of June. Newcastle Ecumenical Food Pantry strives to reduce food insecurity while also maintaining the dignity of their recipients, raising public awareness, and remaining a volunteer organization. They serve the towns of Damariscotta, Nobleboro, and Newcastle.
The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) was the Co-ops for Community Day recipient for July. MOFGA is the oldest and largest organic association in the country, offering education and resources on organic growing to farmers and gardeners. Each September, MOFGA hosts the Common Ground Country Fair in Unity, ME, which draws a crowd of thousands of people interested in agriculture, sustainability, and natural living. This year’s fair will take place September 23, 24, and 25 (Friday-Sunday). Their website is www.mofga.org.
Rising Tide’s Co-ops for Community recipient for August and September will be the co-op’s Community Investment Fund. The purpose of the Community Investment Fund is to provide grants of $100-300 to support local groups working in the areas of environment, community, food and hunger, and cooperatives.
Each month, Rising Tide donates .5 percent of Wednesday sales to a local non-profit organization chosen by the co-op’s member-owners. Past Co-ops for Community Day beneficiaries include the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, Damariscotta River Association, New Hope for Women, Healthy Kids, Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association, FARMS (Focus on Agriculture in Rural Maine Schools), along with many more local nonprofits!
