Nobleboro crash injures, traps occupants
Three Jefferson residents were hurt, two seriously, in Nobleboro on March 17 when the pickup truck they were traveling in went into a ditch, struck granite blocks and then rolled over, authorities said.
The accident happened at about 11:45 a.m. on East Pond Road, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff's Office press release. Injured were the truck's driver, Cody Beaucage, 18; Kenneth Snyder, 19; and a 17-year-old Jefferson resident who was not identified.
Beaucage was driving a 2007 Chevrolet 1500 pickup registered to Jeremy Lane of Jefferson, the release states. Front seat passenger Snyder was wearing a seat belt, as was the teen in the back seat; Beaucage was not wearing one, according to the release.
The Nobleboro and Jefferson fire departments, along with an unidentified local contractor using an excavator, freed Beaucage and Snyder from the truck, the release states. The two had been trapped inside it for about an hour.
“(The) initial investigation has determined that .... Beaucage was operating south on the East Pond Road when he lost control while negotiating a curve ... The vehicle ... fish tailed in the roadway before entering the southbound ditch and striking several large granite blocks,” the release states. “After striking the granite blocks the vehicle ... rolled over and came to rest on its roof.”
That part of East Pond Road remained closed to traffic for nearly four hours. Maine State Police aided sheriff's deputies and reconstructed the accident.
Central Lincoln County Ambulance took all three of the truck's occupants to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, the release continues.
“Both the 17-year-old (and) Beaucage were treated for broken bones and internal injuries that are not believed to be life threatening at this time .... Snyder’s injuries were less serious in nature and involved a complaint of pain to his shoulder and arm.
“Deputies will continue their investigation into this crash but it does appear that speed and alcohol were a factor,” the release states. “Once the investigation is complete the sheriff’s office will consult with the Wiscasset District Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges are appropriate,” it concludes.
