Organist Dr. Timothy Wissler performs
Dr. Timothy Wissler, organist of the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta will perform an organ concert at the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. The concert is free, although donations will be accepted at the door to defray costs.
Audience members will have an opportunity to meet Wissler at a reception following the concert. His concert will include works by Sumsion, Stanley, Bach, Wood, Manz, Shearing, Gigout and Vierne.
At the Cathedral, Wissler accompanies the Cathedral Choirs, plays for parish and episcopal liturgies and conducts the Cathedral Girl and Boy Choirs. He is also the organist for The Temple in Atlanta. He has served as a member of the music faculties of Georgia State University and Mercer University Atlanta.
A Pennsylvania native, Wissler earned the bachelor of arts degree at Lebanon Valley College and the master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees in organ performance at the University of Michigan. He has performed in the U.S., Germany, France and Italy. He has also served as adjudicator for local and international organ playing competitions. He currently serves as co-chair of the Taylor Organ Competition committee, a national competition for undergraduate organists begun by the Atlanta AGO.
In 1994, with other Atlanta church and cathedral organists, he organized the Atlanta Summer Organ Festival which is celebrating 18 seasons and served on the Organ Selection Committee for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's future concert hall.
In 1971, Wissler married Anne Jameson Wissler, daughter of Daniel and Shirley Jameson, and they spent their honeymoon in Boothbay Harbor at her parent's cottage. Boothbay Harbor has been a second home to them for 41 years.
